Printful vs Printify

Printful vs Printify? Are You Confused about Which One To Choose?

You don’t have to worry, I did extensive research on both options. They are two of the most respected print-on-demand companies. I have analyzed the 10 most important factors you need to consider before making a decision between Printiful or Printify.

Here is a summary of the main points. For a deeper comparison, please refer to the article.

How does Print on Demand T-Shirt companies work?

The global custom t-shirt printing market (Print On Demand) was valued at 1.16 Billion U.S. Dollars in 2016. It is expected that it will reach 3.1 Billion U.S. Dollars by 2025.

Let’s first take a look at the print-on-demand businesses.

Print-on-demand companies print each piece individually when an order is placed, rather than printing large quantities at once. Independent artists love this method because it eliminates all uncertainty when placing orders.

The downside? The downside? Even the most reliable print-on-demand companies will charge more per item than bulk orders. This is because it is more costly to print one shirt or mug than to print the same design on a hundred.

Print-on-demand is the best option for small-scale artists, as they are scalable. You want your business to grow.

Imagine you create a design that is instantly popular. You may need to place large orders and order hundreds of thousands of T-shirts or mugs.

You may need to borrow money as your business grows.

print-on-demand service can scale with your business so you won’t be left with too many customers or not enough cash. This is what these two services share in common.

These companies have significant differences. I will then show you how each of these companies operates.

Printful works

Print is easy to get started. Simply sign up and link your online store with Printful. You can then start designing your products.

Not a designer? Printiful has a variety of templates you can use for customizing hundreds of items. These include T-shirts, blankets, and coffee mugs as well as stickers and phone cases. You can choose any item to sell in your shop, and Printful’s mockup generator allows you to create stunning, high-resolution graphics for them. It’s easy.

After your products have been loaded into your store you can start promoting them to your target audience. Then watch the orders come in. Printful will package, print and ship all orders that are submitted to your store.

Google Trends Comparison

While Printful has a higher overall search term popularity over time, the interest in both stores tends towards correlation. For example, both stores have seen their search terms grow in the past five years. In May 2020, both print-on-demand providers had particularly high search term interest.

Printful is the top state for Printful searches. Print outperforms Printify in all regions and states when it comes to search results.

As you might expect, searches to either Printful or Printify often go hand in hand with searches for Etsy or Shopify.

Printful Vs Printify – 10 Factors Compared

These companies will be scored in 10 areas: suppliers and order fulfillment/lead times, integration with online shops, pricing and selections, shipping, earning potential, and customer support. I will also give an overall rating that includes all the above and any additional features offered by the services.

Let’s dive deep into the top T-shirt fulfillment businesses on the Internet.

1. Printful vs Printify Suppliers

Printify does not actually make any of its merchandise. Your orders will be fulfilled by third-party suppliers. Quality may vary. This can be both a benefit and a drawback.

You can, on the one hand. If you are unhappy with the product’s quality, you can switch suppliers.

However, it’s possible to have upset customers if you don’t take precautions.

Although it is not possible to investigate individual suppliers, there are many Reddit threads that you can use and other resources that you can consult.

A good rule of thumb for any T-shirt fulfillment company is to always order a sample first before listing your item for sale.

This will allow you to correct any problems before they become a customer service issue.

Printful is the opposite side of the board. All of its work is done in-house. It’s much easier to fix basic issues like color misalignment and vibrancy since you won’t have to deal with a third party supplier.

This can also save time. You can get your product listed quicker and make money.

If you have other serious issues, like poor quality material, then you will not be able to switch suppliers. Printful will provide you with what you need.

These issues are very rare and Printful receives great reviews for product quality.

2. Who has Order Fulfillment/Lead time?

Online stores can make it as important to know where your order is made as to how quickly it is.

A Chinese supplier might be able to produce your mug in 24 hours. However, a local supplier could take three days to complete the same task. However, once you factor in international shipping times, your mug will still be delivered faster by the local supplier.

Printful does not rely on third-party suppliers. It fulfills orders from its own locations and shipping time is 7-8 days depending upon the destination. Print is a fulfillment center in California and North Carolina. The company can also fulfill orders in Mexico, Latvia, and other countries.

Printify USA has suppliers in California and Georgia. Printify also has suppliers overseas: three in the UK and one in China. Printify offers express shipping within the U.S.

Printify is not responsible for shipping the products, but the suppliers. This means that the locations of your order may differ depending on what product you are shipping. Most common products, such as hoodies and T-shirts, will ship from all locations. However, some niche products may only ship from a handful of suppliers.

The final decision on which service is best depends on the location of your customers. The U.S. is more equal than the U.K. It all depends on where you are located. Printify is a better option than Printful for UK sellers.

Order fulfillment is closely related to lead time, which is the time between when your customer places an order and when it actually ships.

Printify’s supplier network is particularly weak in this area. Some suppliers can ship orders within two days while others can take up to a week. This could cause unnecessary customer service problems for you.

Printful’s lead times are not as quick as some Printify suppliers, but they are generally faster. It’s also predictable so that you can give your customers an accurate timeframe. Printful generally ships orders within 2-7 business days of placing them.

3. Printful vs. Printify Integration

Printify and Printful both allow you to share products on major ecommerce sites. Only need to link your Printify/Printful account to your ecommerce shop.

Although the exact process will vary depending on the service you use, it is easy to do through the app in both cases. After you have done this, all designs you create through Printful or Printify will be automatically added to your online shops.

Printify Integrations

  • Shopify
  • Etsy
  • WooCommerce
  • eBay
  • PrestaShop
  • BigCommerce
  • Wix Stores

Printful Inclusions

  • Shopify
  • Etsy
  • WooCommerce
  • Amazon
  • BigCommerce
  • Storenvy
  • Weebly
  • Tictail
  • Gumroad
  • Ecwid
  • Shipstation
  • Bigcartel
  • Inktale

Both services offer apps and are simple to use. Printful has the advantage when it comes to integrating into your existing stores.

You will need to manually create listings for unsupported eCommerce sites. It’s easy enough to do but it can be tedious if there are multiple online shops on different platforms.

It’s great to turn your design into a reality. Selling your design is another matter. A print-on-demand service must provide the tools to help you sell your product to customers.

4. Printify vs. Printful Products

Printify vs. Printful Products

Printify currently has 267 products in its inventory. Printify offers a wide range of apparel products including T-shirts and long-sleeved tops, hoodies and shoes, as well as hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatshirts, tanks, pants, skirts, dresses, swimsuits. Scarves, hats, scarves, and baby onesies.

Non-apparel products include bibs and purses, bags, backpacks and jewelry.

Printful stocks 307 products. Printful sells similar apparel with the additions of shorts and athletic briefs. They sell less non-apparel products, with only a few bags and cell phone covers.

However, each style is unique so make sure to check the options for your specific style.

5. Comparison of Printful and Printify Pricing

Comparison of Printful and Printify Pricing

Printify’s pricing is slightly more competitive than Printify’s. Printify’s T-shirt starts at $7.73 and Printful costs $8.95.

Printify is completely free to use, but it also offers Premium or Enterprise plans . If you bill annually, the Premium plan will cost $29/month or $254.99/month. The Enterprise plan pricing is dependent on your business needs.

Printful also comes with no minimum order or subscription fees. The Pro plan by Printful is $49/month. This allows you to access exclusive background removal, free digitization and premium images.

Remember to look at both the services in detail before you make a decision.

6. Printful or Printify Shipping

Printful offers shipping options such as FedEx, DHL and This company provides a detailed guide for how to calculate shipping rates.

This is how your customers will pay to ship for printed products such as T-shirts, long sleeves shirts, crop tops or tank tops.

First product

  • USA: $3.99
  • Europe: $4.39
  • Canada: $6.49
  • Australia/ New Zealand $6.99
  • Worldwide: $5.99

Each additional item

  • USA: $1.25
  • Europe: $1.09
  • Canada: $1.25
  • Australia/ New Zealand $1.25
  • Worldwide: $1.25

Either let the customer calculate shipping costs at checkout, or add it to the retail price. Depending on where your customer is located, customs fees may also apply.

Printify can also fulfill orders by using top carriers. Printify has partnered with local fulfillment firms to help drop shippers sell products all over the globe. However, some of these solutions have slightly higher rates.

Printify’s shipping solutions take longer to ship international orders because they have fewer fulfillment centers. Here is a breakdown of shipping times:

  • USA: 7-15 business days
  • Canada: 10- 15 business days
  • International: 1 0-30 Days

Printify does not provide any information about the time it takes to make a product. Printful updates the shipping rates in real-time during checkout. Printify is a quicker solution for merchants who use Advanced Shopify.

7. Earning Opportunities

You now know the basics. I can feel your burning questions. What platform offers the highest profit margin to help you earn more?

Is it? It all depends on what products you sell and where they are shipping. Let’s look at an example: a basic Tshirt that sells well both on Amazon and eBay.

Let’s first look at your costs before we calculate your profit. When you sell an item via Printful or Printify, there are two major costs.

  • Production costs are basically fixed.
  • Shipping costs can vary depending on where you are shipping to.

To illustrate, the total cost to order a Bella + Canvas 3001 shirt from Printful for delivery within the U.S.A will be $16.94. This is based on the base price $12.95 with shipping costs $3.99.

Based on a $8.82 production cost and $4 shipping costs, the same shirt and shipping location would run you $12.82 .

Printify would have a higher profit margin on this product if all other factors are equal. You can determine which platform offers the highest profit margin depending on your product mix.

8. Customer support

Printful puts a lot of effort into engaging customers. Printful offers new customers a free workshop for onboarding. Printful’s blog offers valuable insights into how to run a profitable printing on demand business. You can also connect with Printful’s customer support team via email, phone, or live chat.

Printify, on the other hand, offers a help center that includes articles about everything, from troubleshooting and payments to mockup designs and specific products, and online integrations. The blog offers tips and examples on design trends and highlights successful businesses. Printify is lacking 24-hour live support. This is the one area that Printify lags behind Printful.

There are mixed reviews about Printful’s customer service when it comes down to online reviews. While a large online community praises Printful’s responsive dashboard and its customer service, others complain that it is slow to respond when customers have urgent questions.

9. Printify or Printful Quality

How can you check the product quality on each platform? Ask other people! Instead of ordering each product individually to ensure quality, I decided to look at online reviews.

Here’s what I found.

It seems like Printful has been the leader in finding the best product designs on the market. Printify, however, looks more like a traditional channel with well-known crowd-pleasers such as T-shirts or hoodies.

A traditional approach is fine. A wider range of products with a more modern edge is also a good thing.

Printful has received more positive online reviews than any other company when it comes to curating unique merchandise or helping to build brand confidence.

is inclined to be Printful, even though there isn’t a lot of information online.

Printify’s print quality is the most common reason for online complaints. Many customers complain that garments crack and fade very quickly.

This is what causes it? Printify may be more of a middleman.

Printify does not actually print its own merchandise. Printful’s model is reversed by Printify, where the company instead uses third-party partners. Printful instead invested heavily in printing machines and warehouses, as well as graphic designers, to ensure consistent product quality.

10. White Label/Branding Opportunities

Branding Opportunities

When you start your print-on-demand business, think long-term. Instead of just selling a few products at once, focus on creating a consistent brand.

This is why you need to choose the print-on demand partner who will help you build your brand.

The question is: Do Printful and Printify offer white-label service?

Short answer: Yes. Both platforms are white-label which means that they will not have their branding on packaging, products labels, or shipment packaging.

It sounds great, right? What are your branding options on both platforms? Which should you choose and why? Let’s take an in-depth look.

Printful Branding Options

  • Clothing: Inside and outside labels, sleeve print on the right side and left side for any clothing products you sell under your brand.
  • Your logo or design on the side, front or back of hats
  • Other products: Branded packaging slips and pack ins to promote your brand. For the outside of your packaging, you can also submit a black-and-white logo and a message for customers.

These branding efforts come at a cost.

  • Inside and Outside Label: $2.49 Per Label
  • Short sleeves: $2.49 each sleeve
  • Long sleeves: $5.95 per Sleeve
  • Hats: $2.95 per placement
  • Packaging slips are free
  • Pack-ins $0.50 per package-in only available for orders fulfilled at fulfillment centers that offer warehouse services.
  • Front and back: You can print one side (front or rear) without additional costs. If you wish to add a design to both sides, you will need to pay $5.95

Printify Branding Options

Printify uses different vendors to add branding. The structure of Printify is slightly different. Except for four print vendors that are not listed, all providers allow customers to add their branding elements to the T-shirts’ front and back.

While only Merch made Easy, OPT OnDemand and SameDayPOD offer additional branding options , such as left and right sleeves, Textildruck Europa, OPT OnDemand and SameDayPOD all offer additional branding possibilities . Merch Made Easy allows you to add inside and exterior labels to a few T-shirts.

Printify’s current print partners do not offer branding options on hats and other clothing products.

Printify allows you only to add your store name to packaging labels. Printify doesn’t support custom messages on shipping/packaging labels.

It is obvious that Printful is the best option for your business branding. With a wider range of custom branding options, including leggings, hoodies and hats, all at affordable prices, it’s easy to see why.

Overall rating

Overall rating

Which service is better, Printful or Printify? It all depends on your specific needs. Are you located in the UK or elsewhere? Printify has UK suppliers, so you’ll be happy to choose Printify.

Are you located in another part of the EU? Printful is better as it fulfills orders from Latvia.

also consider how much control want over your product. Printful is less diverse and you don’t have anyone to call if anything goes wrong.

Printify, on the other hand, can offer you a wider selection and more supplier options. However, some of those suppliers may not be very good.

You’ll also need to consider how you will sell your designs. Printful is better because they integrate with more ecommerce platforms.

However, you can still sell on Etsy and Shopify if that’s all you need.

Before making a decision, you should compare the exact selections of both services, as well as profit margins for products that you are interested in selling – and how the platform can help you build your brand.

What are some other printful competitors?

Printful and Printify don’t offer the only print-on-demand services. These are just a few of their competitors. What makes them stand out?

  • Custom Cat focuses on low prices and is a relatively new service. What’s the advantage? The advantage? You will pay much less per piece than for other services. The downside? The disadvantage? Their ink is less durable, and it doesn’t withstand repeated washing.
  • Gooten integrates with Shopify and Amazon as well as Etsy and other major online shops. While it is more expensive than Custom Cat, it is less expensive than Printful and Printify. Printify has multiple suppliers so the quality of their products is variable.
  • Teespring can be used as both a print-on demand service and a sales platform. They handle your sales.
  • Teelaunch has many similarities to Printful. It offers in-house fulfillment as well as the ability to integrate with other online shops. Teelaunch’s pricing is very similar to Printful, however many Teelaunch reviews complain about poor customer service.
