Overall Pricing and Value

LegalZoom is a popular incorporation service. However, it does not provide better value to its customers. LegalZoom has a $79 package that allows you to incorporate. However, there are many upsells that can make it difficult and costly. You will need to pay $159 for registered agent service, which is included in all of their packages. If ordered separately, it will cost $299.

After evaluating many of the most reputable incorporation services (and LLC service providers), we found Northwest to be the best. Their pricing is extremely low at $39 compared to many other companies. The premium registered agent service for an entire year is an attractive feature that makes their pricing even better. The registered agent service will automatically renew once the first year has ended. It costs $125 annually.

Northwest is the winner.

Northwest’s pricing is much lower than LegalZoom, they have better customer service, and every business formation includes a full year of registered agent support.

This is a huge win for Northwest because they can include more valuable features without paying the total cost of LegalZoom’s incorporation package.

Comparing Company Track Record & Experience

LegalZoom: LegalZoom started in 1999. They have served over 3.6 million customers. Their focus isn’t on business formation services. However, they’ve helped to form more than one million businesses. LegalZoom customer testimonials on any third-party website will almost always have a high number of one-star and equally many five-star ratings. This gives them a more varied feedback pool than many of their competitors.

Northwest: Northwest was started in 1998 and has helped form over 2 million businesses. They share that they work with over 200 new corporations and LLCs every day on their website. There are not many reviews of Northwest on the internet, but most were positive and aligned to the mission and core values.

Northwest is the winner.

They both serve similar numbers of customers and have vast experience. On the other hand, LegalZoom is more optimistic about its customer feedback.

Customer Service

LegalZoom: LegalZoom has both phone and email support. It took a whole week for us to reach them via email. The reply we received was unspecific. They thanked us for reaching out but did not answer our questions.

Our question was answered quickly and efficiently when we called them. The representative explained all of the options and sent us an email with their direct phone number to get in touch with them with any questions. While their customer service is excellent via the phone, they could improve their online support.

Northwest: Northwest offers both phone and email assistance. We tried their email support first. It took almost 24 hours to receive an answer, but the rep was thorough and went beyond just answering our question and sending us an email. We also tried calling them and got similar impressive service. The agent who answered the telephone took the time to understand our needs to give the most precise answer.

Northwest is the winner.

LegalZoom has a lot to offer in customer service, but Northwest is far more than that. Their Corporate Guide system is much more personal than LegalZoom’s less personalized approach (and many other competitors).

Easiness to Use

LegalZoom: LegalZoom is different from most other companies. LegalZoom won’t show you your options for packages to start the application. Instead, you must first fill out your data and then go through a series of expensive upsells to select the formation package. It isn’t straightforward and can lead to incredibly high prices as you navigate through the order form to choose your package.

Northwest: Northwest has a simple application process. You need to enter your business information and personal details and pay for them. There is only one package available. It couldn’t be simpler.

Northwest is the winner.

Northwest has won thanks to its simple business formation service again. LegalZoom has a significant advantage in that there are no upsells. We don’t like LegalZoom’s backward software, which lets you choose your add-ons without you having to decide what you want them to go on.

Speed of Formation

LegalZoom: Their turnarounds are not based on the state in which you are forming your business, unlike many competitors. With their most expensive package, you can receive your business formation documents in as little as 7-10 days. But, their less costly packages can take up to 30 days (six weeks) and take up to six weeks.

Northwest: The screen will show an estimated turnaround time when selecting your state in the dropdown menu. You will see two turnaround times when you submit your order. There are expedited services available in most states for an additional charge.

Northwest is the winner.

LegalZoom can take a while to get your documents back if you do not purchase the top-tier package. Northwest’s turnarounds are based upon the requirements of your state formation, which is much more consumer-friendly.

It’s a simple decision between LegalZoom & Northwest.

Northwest provides a combination service of registered agent service and incorporation for $39, while LegalZoom charges $448. Their customer feedback has been more positive, and they have faster turnaround times. They also offer unrivaled customer service.

Northwest is an excellent choice for entrepreneurs who want to incorporate a business. They are also a good option for almost all of our readers.
