Best eCommerce Platforms

Best eCommerce Platforms In Market to start your Online Business is one of the challenging things you face, You get confused between different platforms and which one to use, Don’t Worry We Have Covered All Popular Platforms with Features and Pricing.

It can be hard to see how even minor differences in performance and features can have a significant impact on your bottom line.

All vendors claim they are faster, more reliable, and better equipped for search engine optimization. The competition. What is the truth?

It is not what I want. You might also find that you have to spend $399 per month to sync your inventory with Amazon and dropship products.

We compared the performance, ease-of-use, design, and integrations of top eCommerce platforms with real site data. This will help you choose the right platform for your needs and give you the edge to be a leader in your niche.

Our Review And Testing Methodology

Real data requires that you run many tests and use a systematic approach to reviewing online shops. I chose to only include the most popular platforms. I didn’t include smaller, niche companies like Big Cartel.

We will briefly explain how we arrived at our results.

Objectively Selecting Sites from Each Platform

  • BuiltWith was used to identify the top ten ecommerce platforms
  • A filter was created to identify active ecommerce websites that spend at least $500 per monthly on each platform. This is the key difference in the original study. This was not done in the original study. It created an unfair comparison. WooCommerce is super affordable compared to Shopify. You are more likely than not to be marketing Shopify if you pay monthly. The previous study also included sites that were not being marketed.
  • We created a huge spreadsheet of all websites on each platform (ex. our Magento list had 5K+ sites)
  • To assign random numbers to rows, I used the RAND function in Google Sheets
  • Collect data for the 100 first websites on each platform (100 sites, 10 platforms = 1000 sites).

Data Collection on the 1000 Sites We Study:
I used a team consisting of four researchers (me included) to gather data for each website.

  • Pingdom – Load time
  • Google URL Profiler – Mobile PageSpeed, Mobile UX, and Mobile Friendliness
  • Ahrefs Ranking Data

Conversion of Raw Scores into Meaningful Ratings
Our research measured overall scores in the following areas: value, performance, ease-of-use, design & themes, integrations.

  • Performance scores are calculated based on page load time, Google speed and SEO features.
  • The features are rated based on marketing features that are both essential and desirable. The features were rated higher when they were free and lower when they are paid add-ons.
  • Easy use is determined by beginner friendliness, support, community involvement, partners/community involvement app/plugins ratings, certified partners/community base and developer friendliness
  • Integration refers to the ability to sell through multiple channels (ex. Integration includes compatibility with different business models (dropshipping), and other integrations such as marketing automation. Scalability is key to your online business’s growth.
  • Design and theme scores are determined by the availability and number of themes free, mobile design rating, Google UX score, mobile friendliness and cost of premium themes.

Best Seller: BigCommerce

BigCommerce best eCommerce platform

BigCommerce is the best eCommerce platform. The robust product search engine makes it ideal to support larger retail brands. It is a great choice for those who are looking to open an eCommerce shop or if they already have a brick-and-mortar store and wish to expand their business to include online orders. The tools available make it possible to succeed in any industry or niche.

You can customize your online store without knowing how to code. The customizable templates allow you to create your store and sell your products. This interface is intended for people with no web development skills but allows those who are tech-savvy to modify the HTML and CSS.

I love BigCommerce templates. You will find advanced and buyer-centric templates within the store. However, very few of them are free. There are seven themes available for free, with two variations of each.

There is a wide community of developers and designers available on the fly. You can search the partner directory to find additional experts.

Pricing is very affordable at 29.95 per month. You get some extras like gift cards, checkout codes, unlimited bandwidth, professional reporting, and gift cards. Although you won’t be able to get a custom SSL and abandoned cart saver, it is still very useful for small stores that don’t make more than 50k a year. The sales limit increases as the plan gets more expensive.

Pros
  • Flexible and scalable
  • Excels with multichannel selling
  • Strong SEO Performance
  • Amazing Theme Designs
  • Comprehensive feature for abandoned carts
Cons
  • Consistently inconsistent speeds in consecutive studies
  • High volume stores are more expensive
  • Cart abandonment is not an option in the entry plan
  • No 1-click Selling/Upsells

Top Pick: Shopify

Shopify Review - Best eCommerce Platforms

Shopify has the best-selling platform. You can dropship using Facebook Ads and Instagram marketing. If I was going to depend on SEO, I wouldn’t use Shopify. If I was creating a large online store that sells many products, Shopify would not be the best choice. I’d use BigCommerce instead.

Shopify performs slightly better than BigCommerce in some areas, such as 1-click upsells after a purchase. But I prefer WordPress because it has an affiliate revenue model.

Shopify’s drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to create an online store. It takes only a few minutes to get the hang of website development.

There are too many apps to list.

Shopify POS is also available for brick-and-mortar stores that want to accept payments via the mobile application. It can also be used by complex stores.
They have their downsides, just like everything else. They currently have only 10 free themes. This is not a bad thing. They charge between $100 and $180 for the paid themes.
Their biggest disadvantage is their SEO. Their poor ranking performance is one of my biggest concerns about their SEO.

They have a fixed URL structure that you can’t change. Shopify websites have many unstructured URLs that go beyond the /products/ and /pages/ slug restrictions. Shopify websites have a poor ranking, which I noticed as well during our research. Shopify ranks very low in terms of SEO.
If you don’t use Shopify Payments, they will charge transaction fees. These are not something that anyone likes. Shopify Payments is an excellent option.

Pros
  • Fast loading time for lighting
  • It is very easy to set it up
  • Many certified partners are available to assist you
  • 1-Click Selling
  • Multiple channels and social selling are possible
  • Amazing themes in a variety of designs
Cons
  • In subsequent studies, SEO was rated poorly.
  • We are unable to customize the checkout process
  • Apps can quickly add up and prove costly.
  • For advanced features, you will need a developer

Affordable : Wix

Wix web builder Review - Best eCommerce Platforms

Wix eCommerce has come a long way in just a few short years. Wix was not on my 2017 list when I started reviewing eCommerce platforms. After they were added to my list, I gave them an extremely poor rating and wouldn’t recommend them.

Wix has become a major player in the eCommerce market and offers great value to solopreneurs as well as small eCommerce businesses. Wix’s eCommerce features are now much more advanced. They offer dropshipping, multi-channel integration, abandoned cart recovery, and print on demand.

They’ve experienced significant SEO problems in the past. While many of these issues were solved, others such as the extra string that was added to URLs for blog posts or product pages, remain. This is not the best SEO practice, especially for large eCommerce companies.

You might have to change as you grow. The storage space is limited to 20GB. If you use a lot of digital products, or other heavy items, this might not be enough. It is easy to use for beginners. Wix is the best website builder I have used. It offers on-page customer service while you are creating your store.

Drag and drop elements can be used to add videos and functionality and make your website unique. There are over 500 themes, of which 72 are completely free. Except if you used their ADI, your site will be published with the theme you selected at the time.

Pros
  • There are tons of amazing free themes.
  • It is very easy to use and set-up
  • Support on-page for many needs
  • 72 themes for free
Cons
  • We are trying to combat a negative SEO reputation. Although improvements were made, the tests were very poor.
  • Many sites weren’t secured
  • Advanced automation and upselling features are lacking
  • It is difficult to customize the template.

Shift4Shop

Shift4Shop Review - Best eCommerce Platforms

3dcart (now Shift4Shop), has been serving over 22,000 online businesses, including PCMag clients, since its 2001 release. You get unlimited storage and no transaction charges. Their POS is also available and supports multi-channel selling. The company was renamed Shift4Shop in 2021.

Shift4Shop isn’t as successful as BigCommerce or Shopify, despite being much older. The reason is obvious. This is not the right tool for beginners. The onboarding video is helpful, but the entire operation is difficult to understand.

Although the templates are more industrial-looking, they feel outdated. Because there is no drag-and-drop functionality, it can be difficult to customize the store. There are many developers who will help you with theme design and other modifications.
Their strength lies in shipping. They offer advanced shipping solutions without any API.

Like BigCommerce, Shift4Shop limits the number of sales that you can make on each plan. The lowest plan costs $19 per month and allows you to make 50k.

Overall, the value is excellent. It’s still missing out on the abandoned cart saver core feature. Shopify included it, which was a huge step in the right direction. It still offers more features than Shopify.

Pros
  • Blog feature is better than any other SaaS ecommerce.
  • All the integrations that you might need are supported
  • Excellent business management tools (emails, QuickBooks, inventory, etc.
Cons
  • Templates are not at the cutting edge of trends but they do follow current trends.
  • Customer support complaints
  • Upgrades: Potential problems
  • Not for beginners

Zyro

Zyro Review - Best eCommerce Platforms

Zyro is a low-cost SaaS platform that is targeted at small businesses. Although it is a relatively new product on the market, Hostinger has it. They offer more than a website builder.

  • Create logos and favicons
  • Images can be resized, upscaled, or removed from backgrounds
  • Make a business name.
  • Write blog posts titles.

There are many free themes that you can use to build your website. You can sell digital and physical products.

To take advantage of the online shop features, pricing is dependent on whether you choose the eCommerce Plus or eCommerce Plus plan. The Ecommerce plan starts at $8.90 per month

Pros
  • Blog feature is better than any other SaaS ecommerce.
  • All the integrations that you might need are supported
  • Excellent business management tools (emails, inventory, QuickBooks, etc.
Cons
  • There is no subscription or recurring billing.
  • There is room for improvement in SEO

Woocommerce

woocommerce Review - Best eCommerce Platforms

WooCommerce can be used to manage eCommerce and affiliate sites under one roof. BigCommerce and Shopify are the best eCommerce platforms, but not by much.

It integrates with WordPress to make any website a functional eCommerce store. There are also extensions that allow you to integrate payment gateways, social networks, 1-click selling, and shipping.

However, the biggest problem is not the setup. YouTube tutorials can solve this problem. Scalability is the problem. Many users report that it slows down as they gain more customers and products.

It is completely free, except for the cost. There are few extensions that have prices, and many WordPress themes can be expensive. You might not be interested in those extensions and there are many good free themes.

WooCommerce will be easy if you’re familiar with WordPress. It is easy to install, add your products, and adjust your settings.
WordPress is a complex topic that can be confusing for those who don’t know the basics. This includes setting up WordPress and installing WordPress.

Pros
  • WordPress is the best platform to do SEO
  • 1 Click Selling App Available
  • There are many WordPress experts available
  • Highly customizable
  • There are many marketing options available and many other integrations.
Cons
  • Hosting can be expensive
  • You must learn to accept blame for problems.
  • Support is virtually nonexistent
  • For simple things, extensions are needed

Nexcess ShopBuilder is a good option if you are looking to use WooCommerce but need some help with the hosting. This topic is covered in detail in the section on other builders you should consider.

Volusion

Volusion Review

Volusion was established in 1999, but it was launched as an eCommerce platform provider in 2002. Volusion is a great choice for physical product sellers, as automatic digital downloads are not permitted after payment.

Volusion is a website builder that allows you to drag and drop in-page editing, and in-page editing. has 11 free themes as well as a number of premium themes. These themes cost $180 and require an SSL certificate. This is an extra charge that other platforms offer for free.

The blog functionality is not available. This is a major problem these days where blogging is the king. You will need to use a third party like WordPress, a plugin, or another means to link the blog to your shop.

The dashboard is well-organized with all the key action areas located in the top navigation menu. You can manage your inventory and do marketing from there. There are many marketing options available, including SEO, Amazon, eBay, Amazon, and social selling.

The number of products that you can sell is limited by their prices. The restrictions on the number of products you can sell for $29 and $79 respectively are in place for the first two plans. This may change in the future. There was once a bandwidth limit, but this is gone now. We have hope because of the constant improvements.
Volusion’s beginner support is huge. You can access the dashboard to see tons of resources on building your store with Volusion and how to grow your online business.

It’s a great platform for subscription eCommerce businesses. Dropshipping is good, but it does not allow for print on demand. It would be a higher rating if Amazon integrated was better. But that may not matter to everyone.

Pros
  • Excellent onboarding and Help Center
  • Sitemaps offer great flexibility
  • Built-in subscription/recurring payments
  • Friendly to SMB
  • A well-designed dashboard
  • Clear inventory and a marketing system
Cons
  • Inadequacy of cross-selling and up-selling features
  • Many websites had poor URL structures
  • One of the slower SaaS platforms
  • Many of the sites that I looked at seemed very old.
  • No built-in blogging functionality

Sellfy

Sellfy Review

Sellfy was established in 2011 to be an eCommerce platform for digital products. The platform has grown over the years to allow anyone, regardless of business model, to create their own online store in minutes. It is easy to use and requires no technical knowledge.

There are three options available to you if you’re looking to sell online with Sellfy:

  • Connect Sellfy to your existing website
  • A custom domain can be attached to your store
  • To make sales on other platforms, you can use “Buy Now” and other embed options.

The free plan lets you sell up to 10 products, but it doesn’t come with a custom domain.

Premium starts at $29/month. The highest tier plan is $159/month. Annual discounts are available for the highest tier plans. Sellfy is a more affordable option than other eCommerce platforms. You can save lots of money when you compare Sellfy to Shopify because you get the same features and eCommerce functionality. To take advantage of recurring subscription billing, you will need to purchase third-party apps.

Sellfy is famous for its ability to set up your store in just five minutes. There are limitations on the types and number of products that you can sell with the Free plan. However, you can upgrade to a paid plan and sell unlimited products and digital products.

Sellfy has its own print-on-demand platform. This allows you to sell a wide range of POD products, without having to rely on services like Printful or Printify.

Pros
  • No credit card required.
  • Does Wix integrate
  • There are many options available for selling online
  • There are no transaction fees
  • All paid plans include email marketing
Cons
  • Low ratings for SEO traffic
  • There are limited options for payment gateways
  • Zapier is required to enable third-party integrations
  • Key marketing tools such as 1-click upsells are missing

Squarespace

Squarespace Review

Squarespace is another platform that allows drag-and-drop. They were founded in 2003 and offer a variety of design options and templates.
Try them out if you don’t require a lot of features. This is also great for eCommerce print on demand.

Prices are very low. You must be on the Business plan, which costs $18/month and is billed annually. You’ll need to pay transaction fees of 3%.

Any of the eCommerce plans starting at $26 or $40 can help you avoid that. You can get auto-recovery for abandoned carts, sell subscriptions, gift cards and offer flexible discounts.
All the essential features that you would expect from an eCommerce platform are included in the package. They can be found on the side menu.

It isn’t easy to design a website. Weebly has a better drag-and-drop editor. It might take you a while to get used to it. Once you are done with the website design phase you will have access to the marketing, inventory, sales, SEO, and analytics features.

Squarespace integrates ShipStation and allows you to install Printful or ShipBob directly from the app section. You can also calculate shipping rates in real-time from major providers like FedEx, UPS, and USPS.

Payment processors and third-party applications are the biggest drawbacks. They support Stripe and Paypal. They only support Stripe and Paypal.

Pros
  • It’s easy to set up
  • Great For Simple Stores
  • Stunning Designs
  • Solid SEO tools
  • Integrates with ShipStation and ShipBob
Cons
  • No dropshipping
  • Marketing automation integration not available
  • No integration with Amazon
  • It could be quicker for the price
  • There are no apps that offer more functionality and features than the one-off app

The Best Ecommerce Platform for Small Businesses

Small businesses do not need the most advanced features to save money at their bank. The pricing structure of the platform, whether it is monthly or yearly, is also important.

We also tested scalability during our testing. This is how you can make your website more popular. You’ll want to scale up your business once your sales are increasing. Multi-channel selling, on different platforms and in other countries is what this means. As you grow your business, you might need apps that are tailored to your needs.

Recommendations

  1. BigCommerce
  2. WooCo Mmerce
  3. Wix
